Cryotherapy for Lung Tumors and Airway Disorders
What is Cryotherapy?
Cryotherapy is a treatment method that uses extreme cold to destroy abnormal lung tissue, such as tumors, excessive airway growths, or obstructions. It is performed using a cryoprobe inserted through a bronchoscope to freeze and remove the targeted tissue.
Advantages:
- Effective in treating early-stage lung cancer and airway blockages
- Preserves surrounding healthy tissue, minimizing damage
- Can be repeated multiple times without significant side effects
Clinical Application:
Cryotherapy is commonly used in lung cancer treatment, especially for patients who are not candidates for surgery. It is also beneficial in managing airway obstructions caused by tumors, infections, or scarring.
